 Curriculum

Within the group, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. We offer a curriculum which enables children to progress towards the early learning goals throughout the Foundation Stage and prepares them for the National Curriculum, which begins at Year 1 in primary school. The curriculum covers the following areas of learning;

  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Mathematics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

Activities

Staff plan a wide range of activities around a theme based on the interests of the children. Plans for each session are available on the notice board and newsletters inform parents of topics, activities and key dates for diaries. These activities typically include; water and sand play, gloop, play dough, painting and drawing, junk modeling, construction, role play, puzzles. Books are always available in the book corner and the group regularly cook and undertake arts and crafts projects such as building robots or making mother's day cards!

We take a walk every day and we have regular visits to the village recreation ground, the Early Years outside area at the school and frequent nature walks around the village. We develop links with the local community further by visiting and joining in a monthly service at St Mary's Church and visiting the local shop and post office.

We have very close links with the Ridgeway School in Childrey and all children have the opportunity to visit regularly. By the time they start in the Reception class they will have met their teacher many times and be familiar with the school environment. Children who go onto different schools also benefit from the informal introduction to a school setting.
